Update (11th April 2021) - The council has bowed to public pressure to public pressure and agreed to restore the football posts they took down on early Wandsworth and Tooting Common so grassroots can continue for young people on the common until June. 


Wandsworth Council Cancels Football

 

In case you thought Wandsworth Borough Council is keen to encourage boys and girls to play football on the common... 

 

These pictures show them quietly removing the first of dozens of goalposts across both Wandsworth Common and Tooting Common to end the football season almost a month early on 12th March.

 

This is despite the fact thousands of school children have been locked down for months and are desperate to return to team sport  from 29th March - and the FA have officially extended the grassroots football season until June.
